Preparation and Integration
for
Altered States of Consciousness

Experiencing altered states of consciousness can be a powerful tool on our path of awakening.

We can enter these states in various ways. Some examples include, deep meditation and prayer, sensory deprivation, ceremony, retreat, drumming or working with plant/animal medicines.

Working with altered states can open the heart and deepen connections to nature and all that is. This work has the power to shift every aspect of a person's life. The experience itself can be intense; effects ranging and varying from person to person and journey to journey. It is essential that each person feel prepared for the depth of this powerful work.

Readying the body, mind and emotional state helps to provide a safe foundation for working with altered states of consciousness. Equally as important is the tender time after the journey as we re-enter daily life. Mindfully tending to this period of integration will support the individual in putting into practice the gifts of guidance and insight received during the journey.

Erin Gahan Clark is a ceremonial space holder and journey guide. She draws from her own practice with meditation, prayer, drumming, plant and animal medicines and uses the tools of deep listening, honest reflection, bearing loving witness, prayer, yoga asana (posture), pranayama (breath work), meditation, yoga nidra (sleep-based meditation), chanting, reiki, music and sound to create a safe space for individuals to prepare for and integrate from altered states of awareness.
